OpenStax is a nonprofit based at Rice University whose mission is to provide students with improved access to education through openly licensed college textbooks. Starting in 2019, OpenStax expanded its mission as an OER provider to make education attainable for any and every person and to ensure that all students can see themselves in the materials that it published. OpenStax needed a partner committed to creating great educational content that centered on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Solution:
With the help of SRM, OpenStax has developed a DEI framework for writing and peer review for dozens of textbooks. The framework is designed to account for areas where diversity and representation challenges commonly arise, including terminology, image selection, historical figures, references, and more. Also, our senior contributing authors brought to the projects by SRM fulfill OpenStax’s strategic DEI requirements and vision. You can see these titles on OpenStax’s website: https://openstax.org/
